Community Events – Chevra Kadisha Kavod

January 9, 2020

From Chevra Kadisha Kavod:

Please save the dates: January 9 and January 12, 2020 for Rick Light at Temple Emanu-El, and January 26, 2020 for Dan Fendel via Zoom

Rick Light, Vice-President of Kavod V’Nichum (Hebrew for honor and comfort), a national nonprofit organization that provides information, education, training, and technical assistance for Chevra Kadisha groups throughout North America, will return in January 2020 to Oahu for an extended weekend. Our Chevra Kadisha Kavod group will meet with him privately for a potluck dinner on Thursday, January 9, and we will discuss issues that are important to our growing Chevra.  Please save the date. On Sunday, January 12, Rick will teach the SJS students and parents in the morning, and in the afternoon in the Temple library, Rick will share his insights with the greater Jewish Community. More details will follow soon.

Tahara Liturgy: Coming on January 26, California resident Dan Fendel, co-author with Rabbi Stuart Kelman of Chesed Shel Emet: The Truest Act of Kindness, Exploring the Meaning of Taharah, will teach our Chevra about the Tahara liturgy to deepen our understanding of the spiritual dimension of our mitzvah work. You can join us in the library or Zoom in from home that evening.

Blessings for a Happy Chanukah,

Alice

PS: If anyone has a place we can host our potluck dinner for Rick on January 9, please let me know. There is always the Temple library, and it would be even nicer in someone’s home.
